Assigning to an Agent & Search Behavior

Connect a knowledge base to an agent, and understand what it actually sees when it searches.

Assigning a Knowledge Base to an Agent

Creating a knowledge base doesn't connect it to any agent on its own — you have to assign it.

1
Set up the knowledge base
Create it and add documents (see Overview & Creating  and Adding Documents).
2
Assign it on the agent
Open the agent and assign the knowledge base in its settings. You can assign more than one. See Assigning Resources.
3
Done
The agent can now search that knowledge base on its own whenever it's relevant.
⚠️Warning

An agent only searches the knowledge bases assigned to it. An agent with none assigned has nothing to look up and will answer without one.

What the Agent Actually Sees When It Searches

When an agent searches a knowledge base, it doesn't get the entire file back — it only sees a small number of the most relevant excerpts from your documents. Matches that fall below a minimum relevance threshold are filtered out entirely, and the results are capped to the top handful of matches.

This keeps answers focused on what actually applies to the question, rather than flooding the agent with loosely related content just because it happened to be in the same document.
