Overview & Creating

What a document template is, where to manage them, and how to build your first one.

What a Document Template Is

A document template  is a reusable layout for a PDF. You design it once — the fixed wording and styling stay the same every time — and leave the parts that change from document to document, like a customer name, a total, or line items, as placeholders. An agent later fills those placeholders in with real values and produces the finished PDF right inside a chat.

Templates are written in HTML. If you're not comfortable writing HTML yourself, start from the sample layout the editor gives you and just change the text and placeholders.

Where to Find It

Open Settings → Agent → PDF Templates. This is the main place to create and manage templates. Each agent also has its own PDF Templates  tab in its settings dialog, where you choose which templates that agent is allowed to use — see Choosing Which Agents Can Use a Template.

The screen shows a list of templates on the left and an editor on the right. Select a template to view or edit it, or click New  to create one.

Creating a Template

1
Start a new template
Click New.
2
Name it
Fill in Name  (e.g. "invoice") and, optionally, a Description.
3
Write the layout
Use the HTML (Handlebars)  box. A starter layout is already filled in — edit the wording and styling, and put a placeholder wherever a value should be inserted. See Placeholders & Previewing  for how placeholders work.
4
Create it
Click Create template.
💡Tip

Once a template is saved, you can render a preview with sample data before any agent relies on it — see Previewing Before You Rely on It.
